In 1852, Philadelphia required children to attend a job. In 1853, Caylie Costa, founder the of Childern's Aid Society, which worked to taking in children htat lived on the street. The following year, the children were placed on a train headed West, where they were adopted, and often given work. By the late 1800s, the orphan train had stopped running altogether, but its principles lived on. The National Child Labor Committee, an organization dedicated to the abolition of all child labor.
What my character in the book did for punishment they had to dig a certain amount of holes a day. the hole had to so deep, so wide, and they had to be like almost perfectly round.. if i remember correctly..
This is what the camp looked like, all it was was a dried up lake bed...
